Key West Video Announced as a 2022 National and Local Excellence Award Winner by UpCity!

Sometimes the fast pace of our world leads to compromises in business. That’s why at Key West Video, we’ve made a decision to roll back the clock to a simpler time. That time is 1989, the year we started as a video production company. It’s our goal to return to our roots, restating our strong commitment to customer service. We’re excited to embrace the future by embracing the past. Be on the lookout for some changes that are sure to shake up the landscape of corporate video.

Vintage Equipment

In preparation for the Key West Video conversion, we’ve ordered all the remaining Video Home System (VHS) tapes we could find in the Toronto area. We really hit the jackpot at a storage auction in Markham, Ontario. The locker’s owner was a former Best Buy employee in the 1980s who stockpiled VHS tapes and VCRs, believing they would increase in value over the years. The only thing standing between us and success is a thin layer of dust.

The camera operators are excited to get in shape while hauling around heavier cameras and external tape decks. They’re already hard at work figuring out how to balance the gear while shooting. They’ve even scheduled chiropractor appointments in anticipation of the extra strain put on their backs. When you book a shoot with Key West Video, we’ll offer a 10% discount if you help carry the camera equipment.

Linear Editing

In post-production, our editors are embracing the throwback vibe. Surrounded by the whir of cueing tape decks, they’re vigilant about watching monitors for signs of drop-outs and tear lines. The tape-to-tape system gives editors an opportunity to become intimately familiar with your project. Any changes in an edit can mean starting over with this linear system, but that’s just a chance to review our work and make it even better the second or tenth time around.

Expanded Key West Video Facilities

We’ve expanded our facilities to accommodate our retro rework. Occupying a third office space allows us to store all of our blank tapes, back-up tapes, client dubs, and shooting gear. We also needed a desk for our newly-hired courier, although she’s usually out delivering projects to clients for review and feedback. Customers outside the GTA can expect their tapes to be delivered in one to three business days.

Everything Old is Still Old

Spring is a time of renewal. At Key West Video, we’re moving forward by moving backward. Embracing old technology is how we plan to get ahead in corporate video production. And if you think we’ve lost our minds, just check today’s date.
