Making NSFW corporate videos can be tricky.
The very nature of NSFW videos is that they are, well, not safe for work.
But what about using them in corporate video? Is there ever a way to get around the obvious (or implied) nudity that is usually seemed inappropriate in professional settings?
NSFW videos are usually shoved on the porn shelf. They typically involve raunchy sketches, half-baked scenarios, and overall explicit content. Their main purpose usually isn’t to sell a product, but rather a service. And we all know what those types of services entail…
However, NSFW videos can also mean other types of content. Whether it’s overt or implied, usually they go beyond hegemonic core values. Take this ad for a $100M Beverly Hills home, for example, that uses enticing women to sell its property. Much like destination videos, this video uses NSFW content to play on the psychology of its users who imagine that they are there.
Depending on who your core audience is (e.g. gender, sexual orientation, age etc.), you may be able to get away with this video. Typically, these kinds of videos resonate more with younger audiences, though this is not always the case. Your brand’s products or services have the potential to be marketed to a wide array of demographics who essentially want the same things.
After all, we all come into this world one way; we’re not exactly immune to this knowledge.
One of the main misconceptions is that these videos are not consumable anywhere. It’s worth noting that not safe for work videos are often consumed outside of work hours, technically making them safe. Depending on your creative direction, choice of shots, and the overall theme of your content, your corporate video may not be as “not safe for work” as you think.
