Ted Talks are videos are concise speeches or addresses that explore a specific idea or offer insight. The purpose of these talks is to inspire, engage, and build a new generation of innovative thinkers. They operate as a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas. TED – standing for Technology, Education, and Design – started in 1984. It started as a conference that covered a plethora of topics from science to business to global issues in over 100 languages.
It welcomes diversity of industries, people and thought who seek deeper understanding. From community organizers to network TV executive producers, these talks have attracted wide audiences from all backgrounds.
Now, much like these talks, corporate video often does the same. Within larger conglomerates like Apple’s revealing of new products, company-wide events are recorded and live-streamed. But unlike TED talks, they’re a first glimpse into a new product as well as a new idea. Company-wide addresses are usually in the form of memos, announcements, events, or the unveiling of product. Rarely are they inspirational speeches. For corporate video outside of internal departments, it is even harder to find these types of speeches. Corporations are less interested in inspiring and motivating their consumer base as much as they are interested in selling them.
This is a lost opportunity.
